Elksbane

Our roaster comes with a unique story. Early Summer 2021, we decided to search for a roaster and found a gently used option in Montana. With the cost of shipping looming as well as the fact that we haven't had a vacation in 6 years, David and I made the decision to make the trek out west to pick it up.

Since we had not been anywhere for so long, we were taking time to drive through the Badlands and were headed to Yellowstone to overnight before finishing our journey. Just east of our overnight stay on Lake Yellowstone an elk totaled our rental van. We were stranded in Cody, Wyoming the week of the 4th of July during peak Rodeo Season for 36 hours. That wasn't where we wanted to be watching a sunrise but we were grateful to be watching one, period.

The folks at the truck rental company managed to get us into another vehicle but our trip was running behind schedule at this point. We weren't able to arrange assistance due to the timing to help us load our 1,000 pound baby. Old fashioned Egyptian ingenuity - a ramp, pulleys, and a lever... the two of us got our roaster loaded. It took us 6 days to make the trip and then 4 months of trying to get the proper installation supplies but finally, FINALLY, our baby is up and running!

We asked our customers to help us name our baby and the suggestion of "Elksbane" was made - that is a perfect fit! You'll likely notice the Elk paraphernalia... we have to laugh about it!
