Coffee + Bourbon = Love in a Cup

Mixing the sweet, spicy flavors of bourbon with the nutty, chocolaty notes in a coffee sounds like a match made in heaven, right?  Add in the fact that there's no alcoholic content and no artificial ingredients used to achieve those flavors and it's the perfect combo.  THAT'S what we currently have cookin'.
After a year-long search we located a recently used bourbon barrel and then talked to the distillery from whence it came.  I wanted to ensure we knew what had been aged in the barrel prior to starting this process.  It's important to compliment the flavor of the bourbon with the right bean and I think we have it!  Nulu Double Oaked Bourbon Whiskey was aged in the barrel.  We're pairing it with a bean from the Kivu region of the D.R of Congo (from the heart of Africa near the borders of Uganda and Rwanda).
The beans will hang out in the barrel for about two weeks soaking up the "angel's share" and then we will let them breathe for a day before roasting.  The roasting process will burn off any alcohol content but hopefully not lose the bourbon flavors we're wanting to achieve.  We're working hard to have our first batch ready by the middle of May.
Follow us for updates on when our "Double Elked Bourbon Barrel-Aged" beans will be available!
May the 4th and caffeination be with you!
