Rewards of Reading

In an effort to help boost reading over the summer months we've decided to offer a Summer Reading Program this year.  From May 25th until August 11th all school age children can participate.

Trying to make things fair, we worked out a point system - 2 points for every picture or comic book read and 10 points for chapter books.  Those points can then be turned into discounts or gift certificates for anything in the store.  I'm really hoping to challenge young readers to keep going over the summer.

I, myself, am an avid reader.  I burned through over 250 books last year.  One thing I thought was very interesting was on my Kindle App - they have a challenge program for each quarter.  Some of the challenges force me to read things I wouldn't normally pick up.  I've found I love it.  Maybe in the future we can try something like that as well.  I'm not getting anything but the satisfaction of having completed all the tasks but it's really fun.

And speaking of reading - we had a customer in yesterday whose son is very interested in reading and comic books.  He's not an athletic person so he doesn't participate in sports.  They were hoping we would know of a group of like-minded individuals he can socialize with.  Since it's the summer we will start with gathering info for anyone interested in participating and maybe over the next couple of months we can create a group to meet here at least once per week and talk geek speak.  We will keep this group to approximate age ranges of 10-15.  If you know of any young individual interested in joining such a group please feel free to let us know.  We will figure out a day of the week and time once we have a few interested.

Keep an eye on our social media for details or stop by the shop to pick up a reading form and more information!
